Liberty Street Jazz Band

The Band

Richard has been playing with the band for quite some time now whenever his "other band" can spare him, and as another classically trained musician he is more than capable of providing the strong bass line that the rest of the band rely upon.

He is currently employed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and whenever he has time off he likes nothing better than the busman's holiday of playing with the Liberty Street Jazz Band.

It is with fond memories that we remember our dear friend Derek Newton.

As a string bass player he would drive the band with his enthusiasm and humor and being a multi-instrumentalist his Sousaphone could be heard playing passages to rival Marcus on cornet.

Thank you for your many years service Derek, we think and talk of you often.

We would also like to remember a dear friend and colleague Howel Morgan.

He enjoyed many years as our bass player and we enjoyed having him as a member of our band.

Howel from Porthcawl has now passed away but his legacy lives on.

Bourke - Dep Bass - Liberty Street Jazz Band

Bourke was a founding member of the band way back in 1993 and he stayed with the band for many years.

Bourke plays a "skinny bass" which is quite something to see if you have never seen one before and he can still be seen playing for the Morriston Big Band on their gigs.

We'd like to thank Bourke for his hand in developing the band into what it has become today.
